Mixed year groups in a series

4Matrix is year/cohort based and so it expects the pupils in Year 10 last year to be in Year 11 this year etc.

Whilst it is possible to go against this model and create a mixed year series (by combining relevant pupils in a spreadsheet for import) this will cause complications in 4Matrix when it comes to calculating headline measures. All pupils in the series will be included in analysis and treated as the year that they have been imported into. For example, importing current Y11 (2016/17) and Y10 (2016/17) into the same series will cause complications with subjects that use number grades, especially if you use mixed year-group classes.
