When calculating Progress 8, can the spare English grade count in the EBacc basket?

No - if a pupil is entered for both English Language and Literature, the higher of the 2 grades is doubled and the 'spare' grade can only count in the Other/Open basket (provided there are not 3 other higher grades from other subjects that can also count here).

If a single English subject is entered for, this can only count in the English basket and it is not doubled.
